What it's actually like
Brickfields sits immediately next to KL Sentral, the city's main transit hub — meaning it's one of the easiest heritage districts to fold into a trip, even a layover, without a special detour. Streets are lined with sari shops, garland stalls, spice merchants and some of the city's best-loved banana leaf restaurants, alongside temples, a church and a Buddhist monastery within a few blocks of each other.
What's actually here
- A concentration of well-regarded banana leaf restaurants — see our dedicated guide
- The Sri Kandaswamy Kovil and several other active Hindu temples
- Colourful street decoration, especially vivid in the lead-up to Deepavali
- Straightforward walking access to KL Sentral for onward transit
Who it suits
Anyone with a few spare hours around a train or airport transfer, food travellers prioritising Indian cuisine, and visitors interested in the city's multicultural layering without needing a full day set aside for it.
If you have a long layover or a gap between trains at KL Sentral, Brickfields is an easy 10-minute walk — a much better use of a few spare hours than sitting in the station.
